February 1, 2022 (Fort Lee, NJ) – Grandmaster Suh Chong Kang Passes at the age of 92.  

World Taekwondo Chung Do Kwan Federation President, Grandmaster Suh Chong Kang, passed away this week at the age of 92.

Grandmaster Kang was a historic figure in the founding of modern Taekwondo in the United States and was the Vice President of the ITF and President of the ATF in his earlier life.  In 2009 GM Kang was inducted into the Taekwondo Hall of Fame.

In the 1970s Grandmaster Kang was the judge for the double test promotion from White to Orange Belt of the former WT President Kim Ung-yong 김웅용, who had trained by private lesson under Jhoon Rhee, and Richard Kim.

Grandmaster Suh Chong Kang also had many prominent martial arts students including, Michael Imperioli, actor on HBO’s Soprano’s, Master Maggie Cole Messina, a former Taekwondo Times cover page story and Taekwondo professional.

Grandmaster Kang is survived by his three sons that have continued to carry on his fathers legacy.

His sons are as follows:

  • Grandmaster Hosun Kang (Edison, New Jersey)
  • Grandmaster Taesun Kang (Jersey City, New Jersey)
