Tae Kwon Do Demonstration in Vatican City

Over 10,000 Catholics and tourists from around the world gathered in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican today. Pope Francis greeted a Tae Kwon Do demonstration team at about 9:30 AM local time. 20 WT Tae Kwon Do demonstration team members gave a 20 minute martial art demonstration. An Italian Tae Kwon Do practitioner, Beatrice Oliveri, released doves to the sky, as the pope and others applauded. After the demonstration, Pope Francis said, “We are grateful to the Taekwondo demonstration team that gave a great performance.” “Peace between the two Koreas is desirable for all mankind.” Initially, the demonstration was to include teams from WT and ITF, however the ITF team was unable to attend.
