Kuk Sool Hapkido Seminar Hits Target and Exceeds Expectations

On August 25 & 26th, the Warrior Institute of Chicago and Master Oren Headen hosted the 2012 Kuk Sool Hapkido Seminar on the south side of city of Chicago.  The event was held inside of the Grand Ballroom of the Chicago Hilton Midway and featured Master Steve Seo, the International Technical Director for the World Kido Federation/Hanminjok Hapkido Federation.  Over the course of two days, seminar participants: 1) Learned about the evolution of Korean martial arts, 2) Experienced the physics of forces, torques, stability, and rotational motion, and 3) Received individualized joint locking and grappling training.  Although this marked Master Seo’s first seminar in Chicago, IL, participants referred to the training sessions as “compelling, informative, and poignant.”

Over 60 registered martial artists participated in the seminar and dozens of spectators showed their support from outside of the training arena(s).  According to registration records, participants were residents of Florida, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Ohio.  While many seasoned martial artists favored the Dong Bong (Short Sticks) and Pyoung Soo (Palm) Techniques, the Pu Cha Sool (Korean Fan Techniques) and conversion throws were definitely crowd favorites.

The seminar concluded with a presentation of awards and the promotion of Nicole Jones to First Degree Black Belt.  Many participants questioned when they could anticipate the next Kuk Sool Seminar.  Master Headen responded, “The Warrior Institute of Chicago will continue to serve the martial arts community and provide quality programs for our youth.“
