In Tallinn, Estonia, at the Fifth Veterans World Championships, Amelia Gomez won her fifth medal in as many World Championships. Ms. Gomez, who was featured in a previous article in Taekwondo Times Magazine, competed in her first World Championship back in 2004 when she traveled to Australia. She competed as a young 66-year-old in the first ever Championships dedicated to those over the age of forty. The age divisions are separated into 40-49 years, 50-59 years, and those above the age of 60.
This August she won her third Gold Medal representing Argentina when she placed first in patterns. This three-time World Champion has also won two Bronze medals, thus placing in every World Championship. She told Taekwondo Times Magazine that this would be her last international tournament. But then again, she said the same thing last time! Ms. Gomez, a II Dan (2nd Degree) Black Belt, also made it clear to this Taekwondo Times correspondent on the scene that she was not 74 years old, but rather 74 and a half!
